Welcome to the December Newsletter for the 2023 Riley National Rally “Riley Tour of Tasmania”. With 2021 drawing to a close the 2022 National Rally in Margaret River in just around the corner and then 2023 will be here before we know it.
The Rally Committee are busy at the moment finalizing venues. Louise and Richard Gotch, the Tasmanian members of the committee, have been doing a wonderful job checking out venues for Accommodation, Dinners and various attractions. As with the rest of Australia, the Tasmanian tourist industry been quiet over the last two years but with borders reopening and people ready to travel the industry is getting ready for a busy summer. A number of venues have closed, changed hands or taken the opportunity to renovate or upgrade. The Spirit of Tasmania is also upgrading their Victorian facilities.
Spirit of Tasmania is relocating its Victorian operations from Station Pier, Port Melbourne to Corio Quay, north of Geelong to provide an improved experience for the 450,000 passengers who travel annually and support the long-term operations of this service. Geelong Port has partnered with Spirit of Tasmania to develop a dedicated passenger and freight terminal for Spirit of Tasmania’s vessels.

The new 12-hectare site located within Geelong Port’s Corio Quay
precinct will include a passenger terminal building, a vehicle
marshalling area for 600 cars, a parking area for 150 trucks, security facilities, public amenities, crew accommodation, a café and a
children’s play area. Construction of the new facilities is underway and will be operational in September 2022. Geelong is Victoria’s second largest city approx. 80 kilometers from Melbourne.
